January 2025 Recap
This month I wrote about the basic pieces of an estate plan. The first four articles asked who acts, what property passes, and which document answers each question.
On January 6, 2025, I looked at What Is an Estate Plan Supposed to Do?. An estate plan is often treated as a single document, but it usually answers several different questions.
On January 13, 2025, I looked at Who Gets to Make Decisions If You Cannot?. An illness can create a decision-making problem long before anyone needs a will.
On January 20, 2025, I looked at What Is the Difference Between a Will and a Trust?. A will and a trust can both be part of a plan, but they handle property in different ways.
On January 27, 2025, I looked at What Does It Mean to Own Property Jointly?. Two names on a title do not always answer what happens when one owner dies.
I want these recaps to make it easier to see how the subjects connect. The answer to one question often depends on a detail from another article, especially the way property is owned or the exact document someone signed.
